Motor vehicle accident northeast of Hawarden – June 3

On Monday, June 3, at 6:33 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of County Roads K18 and B46, three miles northeast of Hawarden, IA.

Jesus Fernando, age 19, of Hawarden, was driving a 2012 GMC Acadia northbound on K18. Justin Mills, age 30, of Orange City, IA, was driving a 2012 Mazda 6I westbound on B46.

Mills failed to stop for the stop sign at K18 and struck Fernando in the intersection.

Damage to the Mazda was estimated at $8,000; the GMC sustained approximately $10,000 in damage.

Mills was transported by the Hawarden Ambulance to Hawarden Regional Healthcare for treatment of his injuries.

Mills was cited for failure to obey a stop sign. Fernando was operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Hawarden Fire Department and Hawarden Ambulance.
