Three vehicles involved in motor vehicle accident west of Boyden – May 20

On Monday, May 20, at 3:45 p.m. the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Highway 18 and Jay Avenue, two miles west of Boyden, IA.

Shane Curtis, age, 37, of Boyden, IA, was diving a 1999 GMC Suburban eastbound on Highway 18. Kade Moret, age 16, of Boyden, IA, was driving a 2009 Pontiac G6 eastbound on Highway 18 following Curtis. Makinze Rensink, age 17, of Boyden, IA, was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Impala eastbound on Highway 18 following Moret. Curtis slowed for a turning vehicle, Moret slowed and Rensink struck Moret. The impact pushed Moret forward, striking Curtis.

No injuries were reported.

The GMC sustained approximately $1,000 in damage; damage to the Pontiac was estimated at $7,000 and the Chevrolet sustained approximately $1,000 in damage.

Curtis was cited for failure to produce proof of financial liability. Rensink was cited for following too close.
