Motor vehicle accident west of Sioux Center – May 19

On Sunday, May 19, at 5:54 p.m. the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of 380th Street and Garfield Avenue, three miles west of Sioux Center, IA.

Cole Porter, age 30, of Doon, IA, was diving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on Garfield Avenue. Ever Chavez-Chilel, age 26, of Sioux Center, was driving a 2012 Toyota Tacoma eastbound on 380th Street. Chavez-Chilel failed to stop for the stop sign, entered the intersection and the two struck.

Porter reported minor injuries and declined further medical attention.

The Chevrolet sustained approximately $10,000 in damage; the Toyota received approximately $15,000 in damage.

Chavez-Chilel was cited for failing to yield from a stop sign and operating a motor vehicle without valid driver’s license. The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Sioux Center Ambulance, Sioux Center Fire Department and Sioux Center Police Department.
