Motor vehicle accident west of Hull – May 10

On Friday, May 10, at 9:46 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Highway 75 and 310th Street, two miles west of Hull, IA.

Joshua Van Roekel, age 27, of Sioux Center, IA, was driving a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix southbound on Highway 75. Gavin Brands, age 17, of Inwood, IA, was driving a 2020 Jeep Renegade westbound on 310th Street. Brands stopped for the stop sign at Highway 75, entered the intersection and the two struck. After the collision, Van Roekel lost control of his vehicle and struck an Iowa Department of Transportation light pole.

Both drivers reported minor injuries and declined further medical attention.

Damage to the Pontiac was estimated at $18,000; the Jeep sustained approximately $22,000 in damage. Damage to the light pole was estimated at $7,000.

Brands was cited for failure to yield from a stop sign.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Rock Valley Police Department, Hull Ambulance and Hull Fire Department.
