Driver arrested after leaving scene of accident near Hull – April 8

On Monday, April 8, at 1:39 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jeronimo Martin-Perez, age 28, of Hull, IA.

The arrest stemmed from am investigation of a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Hickory Avenue, four miles south of Hull.

Jonathan Hoogland, age 39, of Orange City, IA, was driving a 1996 International semi-tractor pulling a livestock trailer westbound on 370th Street. Martin-Perez was driving a 2014 Nissan Altima on Hickory Avenue preparing to turn westbound onto 370th Street. Martin-Perez failed to yield, entered the intersection and struck the side of the trailer. Martin-Perez then left the scene of the accident.

A deputy located Martin-Perez in Hull and initiated a traffic stop. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Martin-Perez lied to the investigating deputy, providing a false story about the damage to his vehicle.

Martin-Perez was transported to the Sioux County Jail where he was charged with interference with official acts, operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license, failure to provide proof of liability insurance (accident related) and Failure to Yield Upon Entering through Highway.
