Sheldon man takes vehicle without permission parked at Hospers business – March 19

On Tuesday, March 19, at 4:09 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office arrested Michael Monaghan, age 42, of Sheldon, IA.

The arrest stemmed from a February 29 report of vehicle theft that occurred in Hospers, IA.

Upon further investigation, it was determined that on February 29, at approximately 4:25 a.m., Monaghan entered and drove away an unoccupied 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee that was parked at Ok 1 Stop. Monaghan was later stopped and arrested by the Iowa State Patrol in O’Brien County for driving with a barred driver’s license. He was driving the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee at the time of the arrest.

Monaghan stole approximately $30 cash and other items from inside the vehicle. Methamphetamine was found inside the vehicle when it was recovered by the owner.

Monaghan was charged with burglary, operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent, possession of a control substance and theft.
