Residence south of Boyden destroyed in fire – January 28

On Sunday, January 28, at 12:28 p.m., Sioux County Communications received a 9-1-1 call report of a garage on fire at 3420 Kennedy Avenue, approximately two and one-quarter miles south of Boyden, IA.

Upon arrival, the Boyden Fire Department discovered a two-stall garage on fire, which was attached to the residence; they requested mutual aid from area fire departments. The fire quickly spread into the attic of the house and department members fought the fire from outside the house.  Eventually,  fire fighters were  able to get inside and get the fire completely extinguished.

No injuries were reported and approximately 11,000 gallons of water was used.

The house was deemed a total loss and the cause of the fire remains  under investigation.

The Boyden Fire Department and Boyden Ambulance were assisted by Sheldon Fire Department, Hull Fire Department and the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.
