On Friday, January 12, at 11:08 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a commerical motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of 400th Street (County Road B-40) and Jefferson Avenue, five miles northeast of Orange City, IA.
Tucker Gaer, age 21, of Newell, SD, was driving a 2007 Peterbilt pulling a Wilson livestock trailer loaded with cattle eastbound on B-40 when he attempted to turn south onto Jefferson Avenue; the trailer entered the ditch and the semi-tractor and trailer rolled onto its side.
No injuries were reported.
The Peterbilt and trailer sustained approximately $100,000 in damage. Damage to livestock in the trailer was estimated at approximately $100,000.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol. The accident occurred during dangerous blizzard conditions and the sheriff’s office would like to thank area farmers who provided trailers, machinery and gates to assist with unloading the cattle from the trailer.
