Motor vehicle accident south of Sheldon – November 26

On Sunday, November 26, at 10:57 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Highway 60, one mile south of Sheldon, IA.

Ryan Butler, age 33, of Glenwood, IA, was driving a 2013 Freightliner semi-tractor pulling a trailer northbound on Highway 60. Hunter Jensen, age 21, of Ashton, IA, was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer southbound on Highway 60. As Butler crossed the bridge, he lost control of his vehicle, entered the median, crossed the southbound lanes of Highway 60 where Jensen struck the rear of the trailer; the Freightliner came to rest in the northwest ditch.

The Freightliner sustained approximately $12,000 in damage. The Ford sustained approximately $6,000 in damage.

No injuries were reported.

Butler was cited for failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, Sheldon Fire Department, Sheldon Ambulance, and Sheldon Emergency Management Agency.
