On Sunday, September 24, at 2:46 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office arrested Francisco Duenas, age 26, of Hawarden, IA.
The arrest stemmed from a report of a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident that occurred near intersection of 11th Street and Central Avenue, in Hawarden.
Duenas was driving a 2009 Jeep Cherokee when he struck a parked and unattended GMC Sierra. After striking the GMC, Duenas left the area without reporting the incident.
No injuries were reported.
Upon further investigation, deputies discovered that Duenas was the driver who struck the GMC; when they located Duenas, deputies suspected he was under the influence of alcohol.
Both vehicles sustained approximately $10,000 in damage.
Duenas was transported to the Sioux County Jail where he was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated; additionally, he was cited for striking an unattended vehicle and driving a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license. The registered owner of the Jeep Cherokee, Diana Duarte, age 18, of Hawarden, was cited for permitting an unauthorized person to drive the vehicle.
