On Wednesday, July 26, at 2:26 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Highway 75 and Highway 10, two miles north of Maurice, IA.
Salvador Mojica, age 46, of Sioux Center, IA, was driving a 2022 Mac semi-tractor pulling a trailer westbound on Highway 10; he stopped for the stop sign at Highway 75. Cody Van Engen, age of 18, of Orange City, IA, was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 westbound on Highway 10 behind Mojica; Van Engen was unable to stop and struck the trailer.
No Injuries were reported.
Damage to the trailer was estimated at $10,000; damage to the Chevrolet was estimated at $10,000.
Van Engen was cited for following too close.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by Maurice First Responders, Maurice Fire and Rescue, Sioux Center Ambulance and Sioux Center Police Department.
