Head-on motor vehicle accident north of Boyden – July 13

On Thursday, July 13, at 7:30 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Kennedy Avenue, three and one-half miles north of Boyden, IA.

Robert Feldman, age 63, of George, IA, was driving a 2006 Peterbilt semi-tractor northbound on Kennedy Avenue. Cody Van Engen, age 18 of Orange City,IA, was driving a 2014 Ford F-250 southbound on Kennedy Avenue. Van Engen crossed the center of the roadway and struck the Peterbilt head-on. After impacting the Peterbilt, the Ford left the roadway, entered the east ditch and came to rest in a bean field.

Van Engen and three passengers in the Ford were all transported by the Boyden Ambulance to Sanford Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

Damage to the Peterbilt was estimated at $20,000; damage to the Ford was estimated at $15,000. The bean field sustained approximately $1,000 in damage.

Van Engen was cited for failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle, driving in the wrong lane and use of an electronic communications device while operating a motor vehicle

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Boyden Ambulance and Boyden Fire Department.
