On Saturday, July 1, at 11:57 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office arrested Rudy Rivera, age 32, of Albuquerque, NM.
The arrest stemmed from a traffic stop that occurred on Highway 60, one mile south of Sheldon, IA.
After stopping Rivera for driving his vehicle 89 m.p.h. in the 65 m.p.h zone, he told deputies that he recently smoked marijuana and admitted that there was marijuana in the vehicle. Deputies suspected that Rivera was under the influence of marijuana; there were also two children passengers in the vehicle.
Rivera was transported to the Sioux County Jail where he was charged with third offense operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, possession of a controlled substance and two counts of child endangerment.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Rock Valley Police Department Drug Recognition Expert (DRE).
