Motor vehicle accident northwest of Ireton – May 20

On Saturday, May 20, at 10:27 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of 420th Street and Dogwood Avenue, six miles northwest of Ireton, IA.

Megan Ciampo, age 28, of Sioux Falls, SD, was driving a 2021 Cadillac X5L eastbound on 420th Street. Miranda Bloemendaal, age 20, of Hawarden, IA, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Impala southbound on Dogwood Avenue. Bloemendaal failed to yield from the stop sign at 420th Street, entered the intersection and struck Ciampo.

Ciampo was transported by the Ireton Ambulance to Hawarden Regional Healthcare.  Bloemendaal was transported by the Ireton Ambulance to the Orange City Area Health.

The Cadillac sustained approximately $10,000 in damage; damage to the Chevrolet was estimated at $5,000.

Bloemendaal was cited for failure to obey stop sign.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by Ireton Ambulance and Ireton Fire Department.
