In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls as National Police Week.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office is blessed to have some of the best law enforcement officers in Iowa. They put on their uniforms, gun belt, bullet proof vests, kiss their loved ones before starting each shift and leave home to protect the citizens of Sioux County; not knowing if they will safely return.
Every law enforcement officer has to rely on their training and make split-second decisions to make sure they protect those they serve. They are never truly “off duty”. They are dedicated public servants who are sworn to protect public safety any time and place that peace is threatened.
I Thank you for your sacrifices and all that you do for Sioux County every shift. Please join us in honoring the memory of the 246 officers that were killed in the line of duty in 2022.
~Sheriff Jamie Van Voorst
