Motor vehicle accident south of Rock Valley – April 10

On Monday, April 10, at 5:10 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle that occurred at the intersection of Elmwood Avenue and 380th Street, six miles south of Rock Valley, IA.

Andrea Clough, age 30, of Sioux Center, IA, was driving a 2015 GMC Terrain northbound on Elmwood Avenue. Giovanis Ponze-Mejia, age 33, of Rock Valley, was driving a 2006 Mitsubishi Galant southbound on Elmwood Avenue. Clough attempted to make a left turn and struck Ponze-Mejia.

Both driver’s denied further medical attention; passengers in the Mitsubishi, Benicia Herrera Tellez, age 37, of Rock Valley, was transported by the Rock Valley Ambulance to Hegg Health Center in Rock Valley, and Juan Carlos Bustillos, age 37, of Rock Valley, was transported by the Sioux Center Ambulance to Sioux Center Health.

The GMC sustained approximately $10,000 in damage; the Mitsubishi sustained an estimated $5,000 in damage.

Clough was cited for failure to yield when making a left turn.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by Rock Valley Ambulance, Rock Valley Police Department, Sioux Center Ambulance, Sioux Center Fire Department and Sioux Center Police Department.
