Motor vehicle accident injures four in Hospers – April 1

On Saturday, April 1, at 9:53 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Highway 60 and 400th Street, in Hospers, IA.

Logan Kollbaum, age 23, of Anthon, IA, was driving a 2010 Freightliner northbound on Highway 60. Judith McCord, age 65, of Spencer, IA was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Express van westbound on 400th Street. McCord entered the intersection and the two struck.

McCord was transported by the Hospers Ambulance to Orange City Area Health for treatment of minor injuries. A passenger in the Express van, Byron Smith Sr, age 64, of Spencer was transported by the Granville Ambulance to Orange City Area Health for treatment of minor injuries. Kollbaum and a passenger in the Freightliner, Carlos Inigo Ransom, age 23, of Sioux City, IA, were both transported by private vehicle to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

The Freightliner sustained approximately $20,000 damage. The Chevrolet sustained an estimated $8,000 in damage.

McCord was cited for failure to obey a stop sighn.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Hospers Ambulance, Granville Ambulance, Hospers Fire Department and Iowa Department of Transportation.
