On Thursday, December 15, at 9:16 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office arrested Samantha Mackie, age 19, of Hawarden, IA.
The arrest stemmed from a report of a motor vehicle accident on Wednesday, December 14, at 5:17 a.m., that occurred on 490th Street, six miles southwest of Ireton, IA.
Upon further investigation, deputies discovered an unoccupied vehicle in the northwest ditch; investigators later discovered a container of a substance believed to be methamphetamine, a bag containing marijuana, and a glass smoking pipe with methamphetamine residue.
Through the investigation, deputies determined that Mackie was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu westbound on 490th street when she lost control of the vehicle, entered the ditch and rolled.
Mackie reported minor injuries from the accident and admitted ownership of the drugs and paraphernalia.
The Malibu sustained approximately $8,000 in damage.
Mackie was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was cited for failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle and operating a non-insured motor vehicle.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Hawarden Police Department.
