Motor vehicle accident northeast of Ireton – December 5

On Monday, December 5, at 6:25 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Highway 10, three miles northwest of Ireton, IA.

Ellason Popken, age 15, of Ireton was driving 2012 Volkswagen Jetta westbound on Highway 10. Timothy Clinger, age 31, of Hawarden, IA, was standing outside of his disabled vehicle, a 2004 Ford Mustang. Popken entered the eastbound lane to avoid another vehicle and struck the disabled Ford on the roadway.

Popken and Clinger were transported to the Hawarden Healthcare for treatment of minor injuries.

The Volkswagen sustained approximately $8,000 in damage. The Ford sustained approximately $10,000 in damage.

Clinger was cited for no insurance.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Ireton Ambulance and Ireton Fire Department.
