Motor vehicle accident north of Maurice – November 15

On Tuesday, November 15, at 8:09 p.m.. the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that  occurred at the intersection Highway 75 and Highway 10, two miles north of Maurice, IA.

Grace Boomsma age 21, of Byron Center, MI, was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Mailbu southbound on Highway 75. Asa Byl, age 16, of Maurice, was driving a 2008 Ford Explorer Sport Trac westbound on Highway 10. Byl failed to stop for the stop sign at Highway 75, entered the intersection and the two struck.

Boomsma was treated for minor injuries at the scene and declined further medical treatment.

Damage to the Ford was estimated at $15,000; damage to the Chevrolet was estimated at $15,000.

Byl was cited for failing to obey a stop sign.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Maurice First Responders, Sioux Center Fire Department and Sioux Center Ambulance.
