On Monday, October 24, at 11:56 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a utility-terrain vehicle (UTV) accident that occurred near the intersection of 420th and Goldfinch Ave, three miles southwest of Sioux Center, IA.
Kathleen Vonk, age 62 of Ireton, IA, was driving a 2015 Can Am Commander UTV westbound on 420th Street when she reported that she swerved to avoid striking a racoon on the roadway, lost control of the UTV and partially left the roadway; the UTV rolled onto its side.
No injuries were reported.
The UTV sustained an estimated $1,000 in damage.
Vonk was cited for failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle, operating a non-registered vehicle and operating a motor vehicle without liability insurance.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Sioux Center Police Department.
