On Thursday, July 14, at 6:35 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a report of a vehicle in the ditch on Dove Avenue, one-half mile west of Ireton, IA.
Kate Holtrop, age 31, of Ireton, was driving a 2006 Saturn Vue southbound on Dove Avenue when she lost control of the vehicle, entered the west ditch, re-entered onto Dove Avenue, lost control of the vehicle again and entered the east ditch, where the vehicle became stuck. Responding deputies suspected that Holtrop was under the influence of alcohol; they also discovered a loaded shotgun in the vehicle.
The vehicle was not damaged.
Holtrop was transported by the Ireton Ambulance to Hawarden Regional Health where she was treated and released.
Holtrop was transported to the Sioux County Jail where she was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated-third offense and carrying or transporting a dangerous weapon while intoxicated.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Hawarden Police Department, Ireton Fire Department and Ireton Ambulance.
