On Tuesday, June 28, at 4:56 p.m. the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Highway 10 and Coolidge Avenue, four miles east of Hawarden, IA.
Yazmin Topete, age 20 of Ireton, IA, was driving a 2004 Jeep Liberty westbound on Highway 10. Brandon Dekkers, age 29, of Ireton, was driving a 2014 Mack 600 semi-truck pulling a feed trailer northbound on Coolidge Avenue. Dekkers stopped at the stop sign for Highway 10, drove into the intersection and the two struck.
Topete was transported by the Hawarden to Hawarden Regional Health for treatment of her injuries.
Damage to the Jeep was estimated at $6,000. The Mack sustained approximately $8,000 in damage.
Topete was cited for operating a motor vehicle without a valid drivers license. Dekkers was cited for failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Hawarden Fire Department and Hawarden Ambulance.
