On Saturday, May 28, at 10:05 a.m., The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Highway 10, one-half mile west of Alton, IA.
Edwin Grotenhuis, age 72, of Alton, was driving a 2013 Ford F-150 westbound on Highway 10. Vanessa Vande Vegte, age 17, of Alton, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Impala westbound on Highway 10 following Grotenhuis. Grotenhuis was slowing for a turning vehicle that was ahead of him and Vande Vegte struck the Ford.
No injuries were reported.
The Chevrolet sustained approximately $3,000 in damage; damage to the Ford was estimated at $1,500.
Vande Vegte was cited for following too close.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Orange City Police Department.
