On Thursday, May 12, at 5:01 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Cherry Avenue, two miles north of Hawarden, IA.
Charles Houlton, age 15, of Ireton, IA was driving a 2016 Toyota Camry northbound on Cherry Avenue. Karsen Van Oort, age 17, of Ireton, was driving a 2014 Jeep Wrangler northbound on Cherry Avenue behind Houlton. Shawn Munns, age 65, of Hawarden, was driving a 2010 Ford F-250 northbound on Cherry Avenue and stopped behind Van Oort. Joanne Munns, age 58, of Hawarden, was driving a 2010 Cadillac Escalade northbound on Cherry Avenue and struck the rear of the F-250; the F-250 then struck the Jeep, which was pushed forward and struck the Toyota.
Joanne Munns was transported by private vehicle to the Hawarden Regional Healthcare for treatment of minor injuries. Shawn Munns was transported by the Hawarden Ambulance to Hawarden Regional Healthcare for treatment of minor injuries.
The Toyota sustained approximately $5,000 damage. The Jeep sustained an estimated $4,000 damage. The Ford sustained approximately $20,000 in damage and the Cadillac sustained approximately $10,000 damage.
Joanne Munns was cited for following too close.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Hawarden Ambulance, Hawarden Fire Department and Hawarden Police Department.
