On Monday, December 6, at 5:04 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Sioux Center Police Department at a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Highway 75, in Sioux Center. The Sioux Center Police began the accident investigation, but became busy with one of the drivers involved involved in the accident, who was suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol.
Jamie Franken, age 51, of Sioux Center, was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on 75. Sarah Newkirk, age 38, of Hawarden, IA, was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier northbound on Highway 75 behind Franken. Franken stopped for a stop light at 16th Street and Newkirk struck Franken.
Newkirk reported minor injuries and declined further medical attention.
The Silverado sustained approximately $5,000 in damage. The Cavalier sustained an estimated $5,000 in damage.
Alcohol or drug use is believed to be a factor and the accident remains under investigation.
Officers were assisted by the Sioux Center Ambulance and Sioux Center Fire Department.
