One person suffers minor injuries after falling into well near Hawarden – November 12

On Friday, November 12, at 9:32 a.m., Sioux County Communications received a 9-1-1 call reporting that someone fell into a well outside of a residence on Birch Avenue, four miles northeast of Hawarden, IA.

The Hawarden Fire Department, Hawarden Ambulance, Hawarden Police Department and Sioux County Sheriff’s Office responded to the location.

Upon further investigation, responders discovered that Yesenia Torres, age 33, of Hawarden, accidentally stepped into the well and fell approximately 10 feet to the bottom; the well was dry at the time of the incident.

Torres was rescued from the well by personnel from the Hawarden Fire Department who used an emergency ladder designed for tight-quarter rescue situations; she was transported by the Hawarden Ambulance to Hawarden Regional Healthcare for treatment of minor injuries.
