On Monday, November 8, at 3:40 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a commercial motor accident that occurred at the intersection of 420th Street and Birch Avenue, one mile north of Hawarden, IA.
Blake Riepma, age 23, of Ireton, IA, was driving a 1996 International semi-tractor pulling a trailer westbound on 420th Street. John Goebel, age 53, of Philip, SD, was driving a 2001 Volvo semi- tractor pulling a trailer southbound on Birch Avenue. Riepma failed to yield for the stop sign at Birch Avenue, entered the intersection and the two struck.
No injuries were reported.
The International sustained approximately $5,000 in damage. The trailer attached to the Volvo sustained an estimated $30,000 in damage.
Riempa was cited for failing to obey a stop sign.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Hawarden Police Department.
