On Sunday, October 3, at 12:29 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Fig Avenue, two miles northeast of Rock Valley, IA.
Abraham Vander Waal, age 20, of Hull, IA was driving a 2007 Dodge Ram southbound on Fig Avenue when he lost control of the vehicle, entered the south ditch, and rolled.
No injuries were reported.
The Dodge sustained approximately $25,000 in damage.
When law enforcement initially arrived at the location of the accident, Zachary Rus, age 20, of Sioux Center, a passenger in the vehicle, ran from the scene but was apprehended. Upon further investigation, deputies suspected that Vander Wall was under the influence of alcohol.
Vander Waal was transported to the Sioux County Jail where he was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and failing to maintain control of a motor vehicle. Rus was transported to the Sioux County Jail where he was charged with interference with official acts, public intoxication and possession of alcohol under age 21.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Rock Valley Police Department, Rock Valley Fire Department and Rock Valley Ambulance.
