On Thursday, September 23, at 8:20 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Highway 10, one mile west of Orange City, IA.
Boaz Byl, age 17, Maurice, IA, was driving a 2015 Ford Escape eastbound on Highway 10; he stopped for vehicles waiting in a construction zone. Casey Oolman, age 17, of Orange City, was driving a 2007 Chrysler 300 eastbound on Highway 10 and stopped behind Byl. Treyton Bonnema, age 17, of Ireton, IA, was driving a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am eastbound on Highway 10 behind Oolman when he struck the Chrysler; the Chrysler was pushed forward and struck the Ford.
No injuries were reported.
The Ford sustained approximately $2,000 in damage. The Chrysler sustained an estimated $6,000 in damage. Damage to the Pontiac was estimated at $8,000.
Bonnema was cited for following too close.
