On Tuesday, April 6, at 4:11 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of 380th Street and Garfield Avenue, three miles west of Sioux Center, IA.
Gary Van Engelenhoven, age 63, of Sioux Center, IA was driving a 2021 Thomas school bus owned by the Sioux Center Community School District eastbound on 380th Street; he stopped for the stop sign at Garfield Avenue. Diane Grom, age 65, of Rock Valley, IA was driving 2012 Ford Escape northbound on Garfield Avenue. Van Engelenhoven entered the intersection and the two struck.
No students were on the bus at the time of the accident and no injuries were reported.
The bus sustained approximately $100 in damage. The Ford sustained sustained an estimated $1,000 in damage.
Van Engelenhoven was cited for failing to yield from a stop sign.
