Our School Resource Officer, Deputy Waylon Pollema, continues to train our area schools in the ALICE Training concepts. ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evaluate.
ALICE Training offers a set of common-sense lifesaving options and proactive strategies that authorizes and empowers the use of existing building infrastructure, technology and human actions. Using those strategies will increase the chances of survival during a violent intruder event.
Recently, Pollema trained students at the Hull Christian School and the Hull Protestant Reformed Christian School. Students are taught that listening to their teacher is the most important thing they can do to stay safe in school. Some students also participated in lockdown drills at the direction of their teachers. Pollema has also had the recent opportunity to train some of the faculty and staff at the West Sioux Community School District in Hawarden, IA.
We thank all of our Sioux County schools for their continued diligence to keep all students safe.
