On Monday, January 4, at 2:58 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Highway 10 and Highway 75, three miles south of Sioux Center, IA.
Larry Sorensen, age 60, of Hastings, NE was driving a 2014 Kenworth semi-tractor pulling a freight trailer southbound on Highway 75. Josalyn Van Egdom-Briggs, age 18, of Hawarden, IA was driving a 2010 Ford Edge westbound on Highway 10. Van Egdom-Briggs drove into the intersection and the the two struck.
A passenger in the Ford, Linda Van Egdom, age 73, of Hawarden was flown from the scene by Avera Careflight to Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD for treatment of serious injuries.
The Kenworth sustained approximately $20,000 in damage. The Ford sustained an estimated $10,000 in damage.
Van Egdom-Briggs was cited for failure to yield from a stop sign.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Sioux Center Fire Department, Sioux Center Rescue, Sioux Center Ambulance, Maurice Fire Department, Maurice Rescue, Sioux Center Police Department, Orange City Police Department and Iowa State Patrol.
