On Monday, January 4, at 5:42 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Highway 18, one-half mile west of Rock Valley, IA.
Shane Wissink, age 52, of Rock Valley was driving a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica westbound on Highway 18. Braden Van Veldhuizen, age 25, of Inwood, IA was driving a 2005 GMC Sierra westbound on Highway 18. Wissink slowed for oncoming traffic before attempting to turn left onto a residential driveway and Van Veldhuizen struck Wissink.
Both drivers and a passenger in the Chrysler were all transported by the Rock Valley Ambulance to Hegg Health Center in Rock Valley for treatment of their injuries.
The Chrysler sustained approximately $10,000 in damage. The GMC sustained an estimated $8,000 in damage.
Van Veldhuizen was cited for following too close and failure to use seat belt.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Rock Valley Police Department, Rock Valley Fire Department, Rock Valley Ambulance, and the Iowa State Patrol.
