On Wednesday, August 19, at 3:44 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Highway 60 and Hospers Drive South, one mile south of Hospers, IA.
Susanne Janssen, age 59, of Hospers was driving a 2014 Ford Fusion westbound on the Highway 60 crossover to Hospers Drive South. Austin Hayenga, age 24, of George, IA was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado southbound on Highway 60. Janssen drove into the intersection and the two struck. After the accident, Hayenga lost control of the vehicle, struck two Iowa Department of Transportation stop signs, entered the southwest ditch and rolled.
Janssen and Haynenga both reported minor injuries and sought medical attention on their own.
The Ford sustained approximately $14,000 in damage. The Chevrolet sustained an estimated $20,000 in damage. The two traffic signs and posts sustained approximately $400 in damage.
Janssen was cited for failure to yield from a stop sign.
