On Monday, August 3, at 2:22 p.m, the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Highway 18 and Kingbird Avenue, one mile east of Boyden, IA.
Ardis Grein, age 72, of Sheldon, IA was driving a 2014 Chrysler Town and Country minivan westbound on Highway 18; she stopped for oncoming traffic before attempting to turn left onto Kingbird Avenue. Mckenna Huss, age 18, of Sioux Center, IA was driving a 2002 Mazda Tribute westbound on Highway 18 and stopped behind Grein. Rebecca Fluit, age 16, of Fairview, SD was driving a 2007 Ford Edge westbound on Highway 18 behind Huss. Fluit struck Huss, causing Huss to strike Grein.
No injuries were reported.
The Chrysler sustained approximately $8,000 in damage. The Mazda sustained an estimated $6,000 in damage. The Ford sustained approximately $10,000 in damage.
Fluit was cited for following too close.
