On Tuesday, July 21, at 9:06 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred on Highway 18, one and one-half miles west of Boyden, IA.
William Plantage, age 94, of Sheldon, IA was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox westbound on Highway 18. An employee of the Iowa Department of Transportation Highway Division, Lynn Roder, age 63, of Ashton, IA was standing in the westbound lane with a traffic sign signaling for westbound traffic to stop or slow ahead of a road construction area. Plantage struck Roder on the roadway.
Roder was transported by the Boyden Ambulance to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center where he was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.
The Chevrolet sustained approximately $4,000 in damage.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Boyden Ambulance and Iowa State Patrol.
The accident remains under investigation.
