On Friday, May 8 at 1:26 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office and its Technical Investigation Unit investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and 310th Street, one mile northwest of Hull, IA.
Steven Brummel, age 19, of Hull was driving a 2000 Sterling straight truck northbound on Harrison Avenue. Carson Zandstra, age 17, of Hull was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe westbound on 310th Street. Brummel failed to stop for the stop sign at 310th Street, entered the intersection and the two struck.
Zandstra and two passengers were transported by the Hull Ambulance to Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley, IA for treatment of their injuries. Zandstra was later flown to Avera McKennan Hospital for further medical attention.
The Sterling sustained approximately $8,000 in damage. The Chevrolet sustained an estimated $13,000 in damage.
Brummel was cited for failing to obey a stop sign.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Hull Fire Department, Hull Ambulance and Iowa State Patrol.
The accident remains under investigation.
