Commercial Motor vehicle accident – May 1

On Friday, May 1, at 7:46 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a commercial motor vehicle accident that occurred on Kiwi Avenue, five miles southeast of Alton, IA.

Jesse Thompson, age 39, of Altoona, IA was driving a 2015 Mack semi-tractor pulling a freight trailer northbound on Kiwi Avenue when he lost control of the vehicle, entered the east ditch, struck two Northwest REC electrical utility poles, causing the overhead power lines to dislodge. The semi-tractor came to rest on the roadway and the trailer in the east ditch.

Thompson was transported by the Alton Ambulance to Orange City Area Health where he was treated for minor injuries.

The Mack and trailer sustained approximately $50,000 in damage. The Northwest REC property sustained an estimated $4,000 in damage.

Thompson was cited for failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Alton Ambulance and Alton Fire Department.
