On Friday, March 20, at 7:16 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Highway 75, one mile south of Sioux Center, IA.
Tyler Leyendekker, age 22, of Visalia, CA, was driving a 2002 Ford F-250 pickup southbound on Hwy 75. Evan Haarsma, age 57, of Orange City, IA was driving a 2001 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup northbound on Highway 75. Leyendekker lost control of his vehicle, entered the northbound lane and struck Haarsma.
Haarsma, Leyendekker and a passenger in the Ford, Onika Nop, age 22, of Salisbury, VT, were transported by the Sioux Center Ambulance to Sioux Center Health for treatment of their injuries.
The Ford sustained approximately $10,000 in damage. The Dodge sustained an estimated $8,000 in damage.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by Assisting atthe Sioux Center Police Department, Sioux Center Fire Dpt, and the Sioux Center Ambulance.
Leyendekker was cited for failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle. Nop was cited for failure to use safety belt.
