Fatal accident near Boyden *UPDATED*

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the driver involved in the fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred near Boyden, IA on Tuesday, February 25.

The driver of the 2002 Dodge Stratus who died as a result of his injuries was Jordan Gritters, age 18, of Hull, IA.

The accident remains under investigation by the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.

On Tuesday, February 25, at 12:07 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred on Highway 18, two and one-half miles west of Boyden, IA.

Susan Guggisberg, age 69, of Hartley, IA was driving a 2005 GMC Envoy eastbound on Highway 18. Dean Johnson, age 48, of Rochester, MN was driving a 2016 Mack semi-tractor pulling a flatbed trailer loaded with steel, also eastbound on Highway 18; following Guggisberg. A 2002 Dodge stratus traveling westbound on Highway entered the eastbound lane, struck the Guggisberg vehicle, and then hit Johnson‘s semi head-on.

The driver of the Dodge was pronounced dead at the scene by the Sioux County Medical Examiner, as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.  The name of the driver is being withheld pending notification of family members.

Guggisberg and Johnson were not injured.

There were no passengers in any of the vehicles.

The GMC sustained approximately $7,000 in damage. The Mack sustained an estimated $100,00 in damage. The Dodge sustained approximately $8,000 in damage.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Boyden Ambulance, Boyden Fire Department, Hull Ambulance, Hull Fire Department and Iowa Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Enforcement.

The accident remains under investigation by the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.
