On Monday, January 13, at 11:24 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Highway 60 and Kingbird Avenue, two miles northeast of Alton, IA.
Christopher Miller, age 42, of O’Neill, NE was driving a 2000 Peterbilt semi-tractor pulling a freight trailer northeast on Highway 60. Juan Salazar, age 28, of Alta, IA was driving a 1999 Dodge Caravan northbound on Kingbird Avenue. Salazar failed to stop at a stop sign at Highway 60, entered the intersection and the two struck.
Salazar was transported by the Alton Ambulance to Orange City Area Health for treatment of minor injuries.
The Peterbilt sustained approximately $6,000 in damage. The Dodge sustained an estimated $3,000 in damage.
Salazar was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license.
The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Alton Fire Department and Alton Ambulance.
