On Friday, January 3, at 7:43 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Highway 18 and 290th Street, nine miles northwest of Rock Valley, IA.
Stephanie VanMaanen, age 27, of Doon, IA was driving a 2013 Lincoln MKX southbound on Highway 18. Breeana Devos, age 22, of Cherokee, IA was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Impala eastbound on 290th Street. Michael Sluiter, age 53, of Le Mars, IA was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Suburban northbound on Highway 18 .Devos entered the intersection and struck VanMaanen; the impact forced VanMaanen into the northbound lane where she struck Sluiter.
Devos was transported by Rock Valley Ambulance to Hegg Memorial Health Center for treatment of minor injuries. VanMaanen was transported by private vehicle to the Sanford Canton-Inwood Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.
The Impala sustained approximately $8,000 in damage. The Lincoln sustained an estimated $9,000 in damage. The Suburban sustained approximately $7,000 in damage.
Devos was cited for failing to obey stop sign.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Rock Valley Ambulance, Rock Valley Fire Department and Rock Valley Police Department.
