On Tuesday, October 8, at 11:52 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a commercial motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of 390th Street and Cherry Avenue, six miles north of Hawarden, IA.
Michael Holtz, age 62, of Merrill, IA was driving a 2011 Volvo semi-truck pulling a grain trailer northbound on Cherry Avenue. As he approached the intersection at 390th Street, he lost control of the vehicle on an eastbound curve in the roadway, entered the north ditch and rolled.
Holtz was transported by the Hawarden Ambulance to the Hawarden Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The Volvo and trailer sustained approximately $50,000 in damage.
Holtz was cited for failing to maintain control of a motor vehicle.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Hawarden Fire Department, Hawarden Ambulance, Ireton Fire Department and Iowa Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Enforcement.
