On Thursday, September 12, at 7:12 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of 420th Street and Eagle Avenue, four miles north of Ireton, IA.
Kent Allen, age 61, of Akron, IA was driving a 2001 Peterbilt semi-tractor pulling a livestock trailer eastbound on 420th Street. Tetiana Kalinina, age 43, of Las Vegas, NV was driving a 2016 Volvo semi-tractor pulling a freight trailer westbound on 420th Street. Dean Dekkers, age 45, of Ireton was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on Eagle Avenue; she stopped for the stop sign at Eagle Avenue. Allen failed to stop for the stop sign at Eagle Avenue and was struck by Dekkers in the intersection. The impact pushed Allen into the westbound lane of 420th Street where he struck Kalinina.
The Peterbilt sustained approximately $20,000 in damage. The Chevrolet sustained an estimated $8,000 in damage. The Volvo sustained approximately $30,000 in damage.
Kalinina and Dekkers were both transported to Sioux Center Health by the Ireton Ambulance for treatment of minor injuries.
Allen was cited for operating a motor vehicle with defective brakes and failing to obey a stop sign.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Ireton Fire Department, Ireton Ambulance and the Iowa Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Enforcement.
