On Tuesday, July 9, at 6:19 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Eagle Avenue and Highway 10, one mile north of Ireton, IA.
Corwyn Vander Veen, age 50, of Orange City, IA was driving a 2003 Chevrolet pickup pulling a car transport trailer eastbound on Highway 10. Russell Coons, age 19, of Ireton was was driving a 2003 GMC pickup westbound on Highway 10. Coons attempted to turn left onto Eagle Avenue and the two struck in the intersection.
Vander Veen reported minor injuries and declined further medical attention.
The Chevrolet sustained approximately $10,000 in damage. The GMC sustained approximately $6,000 in damage.
Coons was cited for failing to yield upon a making a left turn.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Ireton Fire Department, Ireton Rescue and Ireton Ambulance.
