On Tuesday, April 16, at 12:56 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Hwy 60, one‐half mile south of Sheldon, IA.
Alvin Kats, age 74, of Sheldon was driving a 1973 International straight truck northbound on Highway 60. Joshua Howrey, age 47, of Rockwell City, IA was driving a 2006 Freightliner semi‐tractor pulling a grain trailer northbound on Highway 60 behind Kats. Howrey struck Kats, both drivers lost control of their vehicles and entered the east ditch. The International came to rest on its side.
Kats and Howry were transported by the Sheldon Ambulance to the Sheldon Hospital for treatment of their injuries.
The international sustained approximately $10,000 in damage. The Freightliner sustained approximately $30,000 in damage.
Howry was cited for following too close.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Sheldon Police Department, Sheldon Fire Department, Sheldon Ambulance, Sheldon Emergency Management Agency and Iowa Department of Transportation‐Motor Vehicle Enforcement.
